The Budo Club - UW Madison
Etiquette in the Dojo
Respect is a key part of the martial arts. First, respect yourself. Second, respect your classmates. Finally, respect your teachers who are donating their time to you. Bowing is done as a sign of respect for having a place to practice and people to practice with. It is not a sign of subservience. We can all learn from each other. One reason we have students is to learn from them as much as they learn from us.

In this club, we are very concerned with the members' safety and well-being. We can practice hard without getting or inflicting injuries only if we have good technique and good control. Please, be a mirror of your instructors' concerns.

We practice martial arts because we like it; we try to enjoy it and have fun, but we are also serious about our practice. If you train seriously, you will learn much. Our focus is non-competitive.
